Famine survivors’ higher BMI and triglyceride (TG), but not fasting glucose levels, are mediated by epigenetic mechanisms. One CpG mediates 13.4% of the association between prenatal famine exposure and BMI and six CpGs together mediate 80% of the association between prenatal famine and TG.
